I spent a great many years traveling for work. A completely inflexible city-hopping schedule, with precious little time for personal interruptions, like getting sick.
Time zone fatigue, not drinking enough water to counteract dehydrating flights, questionable airport food decisions, and sharing cabinspace with 300 of my closest friends very quickly led to physical breakdown. Heading home was rarely an option, so a trip to a drugstore and holing up in my hotel room was the only available plan.
So when my career led me to Omni Hotels & Resorts, you could have knocked me over with a feather when I learned about the Chicken Soup Policy.
Yep, it’s a real thing.
For the last 5 years, Omni Hotels has been bringing complimentary chicken soup to unwell guests in the hotel. Complimentary. As in free. And today, USA Today‘s Barbara Delollis discovered and wrote about Omni’s traditional method of helping sickly guests.
Omni Hotels Food and Beverage Director Charles Riley said, “We make it from scratch any time that we need to for our guests. During the Superbowl weekend ice storm in 2011, the hotel served about 25 bowls a day for about four days. We send it up with a get-well card and ginger ale.”
This season’s flu epidemic may end up being one of the worst in a long while, but rest reassured that if the aches may come, so will the soup.
