Having spent a couple of years living in the heart of Pittsburgh, I can personally attest to the number and quality of sandwich choices for which Steel City is renowned. Late night sandwich offerings are plentiful, and there exists a wonderful combination of choices from the distinguished to the traditional, including the art of simply seeing how many fried delicacies can be tucked between slices of bread at once.
This year, the Omni William Penn Hotel‘s Terrace Room is proud to be among Pittsburgh’s finest sandwich architects as Chef Jacky Francois’ Chicken Sandwich was honored by the 2013 Breadwinners: Local Sandwich Favorites by Pittsburgh’s Whirl Magazine.
“The idea for the sandwich was very simple,” Chef Jacky Francois said. “I thought having a sandwich on a terrace in Europe looking at people passing by, so the theme became Italy, olive bread, pancetta, fontina, arugula, basil aioli, and marinaded chicken breast…simple but a lot of flavor, the only thing it is missing is a nice cold beer.”
