Gooding & Co. returns to Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort on March 8th to auction off some vintage treasures of the automobile world. As was reported by the Amelia Island Plantation Blog in December, Gooding & Co. announced several early consignments including a 1928 Bently 4 1/2 Litre Semi-Le Mans Tourer as well as a 1949 Jaguar XK120 Alloy Roadster, 1957 Porsche 356A 1600 Speedster and a 1959 AC ACE Bristol.
For those not familiar with the auction, bidding on these timeless classics is not for the faint of heart, or wallet. The top-selling lot of last year’s Amelia Island Weekend was the Drendel Family Collection’s 1973 Porsche 917/30 Can-Am Spyder that sold for $4.4 million. But a weekend at the newly renovated Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort will quickly take the sting from not able to shell out $1.7 million for a mint 1951 Ferrari Export Cabriolet. Amelia Island Plantation began an $85 million “re-imagination” in 2011 that is scheduled to be unveiled just before the Gooding Auction in March.
The re-imagination marks an exciting new chapter in the resort’s 40-year heritage and is currently underway to bring our guests a destination experience unparalleled in Florida. The new vision of luxury will offer 155 additional ocean front rooms and suites just steps away from the Atlantic Ocean. Also part of our re-imagination will be the addition of 30,000 square feet of state-of-the-art flexible meeting space, increasing the total meeting space at the resort to 80,000 square feet! The new lobby with floor-to-ceiling ocean views will provide quicker and easier check-in to both hotel guests and villa guests from our sister property The Villas of Amelia Island, along with a relaxing new ocean view bar and outdoor deck. The real jewel of this expansive resort re-imagination will feature a custom infinity edge adult pool just off the lobby cascading down to the splash-friendly family pool with two nearby hot tubs, a poolside bar and expanded new dining options – all with ocean views.
