Written by Emily Kaufman, The Travel Mom. As Omni’s Chief Family Vacation Officer, I want to share some tips on how to plan a fabulous family vacation this year. Whether your family needs to reconnect or simply get off the couch and be active, there are ways to stretch your travel dollar to create terrific travel experiences for everyone. Here are a few pointers:
Look for added value.
The added value of staying at a resort is that you never have to leave the property. Resorts offer so many activities and dining options to choose from that you’ll have enough to keep you busy throughout your stay. Many Omni resorts have outstanding family pool areas and water parks. Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort has the largest poolscape in Northern Florida, featuring the infinity edged adult swimming pool, 10,000 sq. ft. family friendly pool, children’s splash park and two hot-tubs.
During the busy summer holidays, hotels often offer structured activities around the pool that families can participate in. Mom can sneak away to the spa or find a peaceful spot to unwind while the kids are involved in kids-only fun. If Dad is a golfer, Omni Hotels & Resorts is home to over 20 world-class golf courses where he can play.
Consider visiting a location during the “offseason.”
Many vacationers escape to warm destinations during the cold, winter months. In the summer, off-season may be the time to go, as many of these provide summer specials making it possible to enjoy a five star resort at a very reasonable rate. Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa and Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia are terrific examples of resorts that are spectacular year-round but provide wonderful getaways during the summer months. Omni Mount Washington Resort is consistently rated a top ski destination during the winter but becomes a wonderful summer resort as well with outdoor activities, beautiful scenery and plenty of activities for the whole family.
Take advantage of special offers.
During the summer, many resorts offer special packages, especially around holiday weekends such as Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. Look for those specials offers, but remember to book well in advance for busier weekends. This summer, “Dive into Summer” package that is filled with added value and helps you get the most from your vacation dollar. Guests enjoy a complimentary late check-out and receive $100 credit to be used for food and beverage at the resort. Families visiting with children should take advantage of the Omni Sensational Kids program, including a complimentary toy- and activity-filled backpack for kids, as well as cookies and milk delivered to the room. Prior to your trip, a concierge will work with you to recommend local activities, adventures and experiences. The package is available now through September 1st.
