Freedom and Independence Parks Demonstration Gardens

Freedom and Independence Parks Demonstration Gardens

Located near the Mahlon Adams Pavilion at Cumberland and Lilac avenues, the Freedom Park Demonstration Garden makes good use of undulating berms, providing distinctly different planting strategies with sun or shade exposures. You’ll also find a bee hotel designed and built by a team of scouts for the garden. The Independence Park Demonstration Garden is a sunny-side garden, located at the Cooperative Extension office off 7th Street. Vegetables and herbs grown there are donated to the Charlotte Urban Ministry's Soup Kitchen. Both gardens are designed, planted and maintained by Master Gardener volunteers of Mecklenburg County who can often be seen working in the gardens, teaching workshops at various events, and answering questions online and in person. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram. You can also sign-up for their monthly gardening newsletter.
