Golfers Plan Their Best Game - and Poker Hand - at Luxury North Florida Resort
AMELIA ISLAND, FL (August 10, 2011) – Boasting 54 holes of championship golf and the most seaside holes in Florida, the Omni Amelia Island Plantation welcomes golfers and card sharks alike to the annual Sticks & Chips Golf Tournament, Sept. 3, 2011, combining the skills of a steady golfers’ hand and the hand of Lady Luck. With room rates starting at $155 per night, each player is invited to relax and unwind – win or lose.
Teeing off at 10 a.m., participants will swing their way through the Ocean Links course, receiving one playing card at five different tee boxes. Following the round, the clubhouse will provide two community cards at the scoreboard, allowing each player to create their best five-card poker hand for the win. Prizes are awarded to the three best hands as $150, $100 or $50 resort gift cards. For those whose golf game outweighs their luck, Nike golf prizes will be awarded to the closest to the pin, longest drive and longest putt completed. Registration is $60 per person and includes two drink tickets for domestic beer or soda.
Designed by Pete Dye and Bobby Weed, the Ocean Links course meanders through a unique coastal maritime hammock, bordering the Atlantic Ocean, saltwater marshes and wooded interior of Amelia Island. Winding along lagoons, marsh wetlands and sand dunes, five holes feature ocean views. Narrow fairways and prevailing seawinds provide exhilarating views while increasing difficulty, stretching the play on the 6,300-yard course. Recently named the No. 1 Florida course for women, Ocean Links was ranked in Golf Digest’s “Top 50 Courses for Women” in June 2011.
