OMNI AMELIA ISLAND PLANTATION NAMED AMONG THE TOP FLORIDA TENNIS RESORTS
Northeast Oceanfront Island Resort Scores Tennis Magazine Accolades
AMELIA ISLAND, FL (March 7, 2012) – The Omni Amelia Island Plantation scored big in the March issue of Tennis Magazine, ranking in as the No. 2 Tennis Resort on Florida’s East Coast and as one of the Top 50 Tennis Resorts in the U.S. Criteria considered in the rankings include number of courts, quality of instruction, clinics and game-matching, lodging, dining and other resort amenities. The accolades came on the heels of another recent announcement for the resort: a new partnership with Cliff Drysdale Tennis.
Located underneath a canopy of ancient oaks, Racquet Park is tucked within the Omni Amelia Island Plantation’s sprawling 1,350-acres. With 23 Har-Tru® fast-dry clay courts, three of which are lighted for night play, the resort has hosted legends like Andre Agassi, the Williams sisters, Chris Evert and Maria Sharapova. Professional instruction will now be led by experts from Cliff Drysdale Tennis, providing tennis clinics and personal lessons for resort guests and locals -- just another enhancement to the resort in 2012, which is currently undergoing an extensive $85 million Re-Imagination project. The redevelopment includes: an expanded 70,000 square-foot conference center; 155 additional guest rooms and suites; a new arrival experience featuring a beautiful lobby with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean; a new, expansive Beach Club poolscape; improved connectivity with rerouted roads and sidewalks; and more food and beverage offerings.
“The Omni Amelia Island Plantation is thrilled to be recognized as a top Florida tennis destination,” said Paul Eckert, general manager of the Omni Amelia Island Plantation. “Our tennis and recreation department has mastered the art of exceeding expectations, with the ability to offer guests an array of on-property activities at a high level of service and expertise.”
Uniquely located on the tip of Northeast Florida’s barrier island, the property rests between the Atlantic Ocean and natural salt marshlands. With 249 oceanfront guest rooms, the resort also offers spacious, multi-bedroom villas with ocean, marsh and interior island views. Rich in recreational offerings, guests can embark on guided tours with an on-property naturalist; golf the most seaside holes in Florida; dine at one of nine on-property culinary options; indulge in a treatment at the nature-inspired spa; shop in the on-site shopping village; or roll across wooden bridges through maritime forests by bike, Segway or island hopper.
