Supplies

  • 3 flat sheets
  • Feather blanket (duvet insert)
  • Pillows
  • Pillowcases
  • Decorative pillows and blankets

Directions To Make Your Bed Like a Hotel

Step 1:

First, lay one flat sheet across the mattress/mattress pad. Tuck in the top right corner of this sheet (closest to the headboard). Repeat on the left side.

Step 2:

Next, lay the second flat sheet on top of this sheet. Ensure the top of the second sheet lines up with the headboard. Do not tuck this second sheet in at all.

Step 3:

Lay the feather blanket (duvet insert) on top of these sheets. Leave about a hand’s length of space between the blanket and the headboard.

Step 4:

Now, lay the third and final sheet on top of the feather blanket (duvet insert). The top of this sheet should rest slightly higher than the feather blanket so you can tuck the sheet over the blanket.

Step 5:

Next, pull the top of the second sheet over to rest on top of the third sheet.

Step 6:

Tuck the top of all sheets tightly under the bed. Repeat on the other side of the bed. Do not tuck in the entire sides of the bed yet.

Step 7:

Now, let’s focus on the foot of the bed. Lift the bottom of the mattress with one hand and use your other hand to karate chop all sheets tightly underneath the foot of the bead. Repeat on the other side.

Step 8:

To make the perfect corner, use your fingers to form a line with the sheets that lines up exactly to the end of the bed. Then, tuck in all sheets to the bottom side of the bed. Repeat on the other side.

Step 9:

Finally, if there are any loose sheets, simply pull them tightly underneath the bed.

Step 10:

For the pillows, lie one vertically. Karate chop the pillow to make it easier to stuff inside the pillowcase.

Step 11:

Insert the pillow into the pillowcase at the top. Next, karate chop the bottom of the pillow and continue stuffing the bottom of the pillow in to the bottom of the pillowcase. Smooth out the pillow.

Step 12:

Set the pillows neatly on the bed.

Voila! You have successfully made your bed like a luxury hotel.  Helpful tip: Use a latex glove to help smooth out the sheets once finished making the bed.

Pro tip: To become the ultimate bed-making expert, go through these same steps each day when making your bed in the morning. Practice these steps for the next 3 weeks until it becomes a habit.

Personal Touches

Now that you’ve mastered the basics of making a bed like a hotel, you can add your own style to your top linens and pillows. At Omni Hotels & Resorts, we strive to bring the local color into every aspect of your stay, including the interior decorating.

“We try to incorporate what we are seeing in residential design into our hotels, instead of what we are seeing in other hotels. Hence the addition of embroidery and white, clean, fresh (and did I say white!) bedding,” said Laura McKoy, Vice President of Interior Design.

Omni designers bring their inspirations to life in the throw pillows and on top of the bed through colors, materials and patterns to create a luxury experience in each hotel room. Recently, at Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale and at Omni Shoreham Hotel, elegant crests inspired by their prestigious surroundings sit prominently on the bed’s accent pillows. At Omni Hotel at The Battery Atlanta, Atlanta Braves red pops against a white background and the stitching resembles that along a baseball. In the industrial Midwest, Omni Louisville Hotel’s throw blanket pattern draws inspiration from the Big Four Bridge.
