SAN DIEGO, Calif., (August 6, 2009) – The work of internationally recognized American sculptor Alexander Calder is currently on display at The San Diego Museum of Art as a part of the Calder Jewelry exhibition. To celebrate this exhibit, Omni San Diego Hotel is offering “A Work of Art” package for local and out-of-town art and jewelry aficionados. Calder Jewelry is the first museum exhibition devoted exclusively to Calder’s distinctive body of jewelry work including necklaces, bracelets, pins, earrings, and crowns.

About the Calder Jewelry Exhibition

American-born artist Alexander Calder (1898–1976) is celebrated for his mobiles, stabiles, and paintings. Calder Jewelry is the first museum exhibition devoted exclusively to Alexander Calder’s jewelry work. This exhibition consists of approximately one hundred objects - necklaces, bracelets, pins, earrings, and crowns - that demonstrate the artist’s love of abstraction and his unique mastery of this wearable art form. During his lifetime Calder produced approximately 1,800 pieces of brass, silver, and gold body ornaments, often embellished with found objects such as beach glass, ceramic shards, and wood.
