OMNI INTERLOCKEN OFFERS SUMMER FUN FOR FAMILIES

BROOMFIELD, CO (January 28, 2008) – A summer playground that offers just as much for the youngest family members as for the adults planning to enjoy their own warm-weather recreational pursuits – that’s the Omni Interlocken Resort. There’s golf, two outdoor pools, Jacuzzi, hiking trails, bicycles for rent, full service spa, and interesting, hands-on activities for kids. And no one in the family has to cook or make the beds. It’s the perfect summer vacation.

Pow Wow in a Tipi with Native American Storyteller

Again this summer out on the open prairie at Omni Interlocken Resort, kids will sit cross-legged inside the authentic, 22-foot ceremonial tipi and listen to Native American storyteller, Bailey Phelps tell tales of the old West and play his Native American flute.

The tipi was designed by Normadics Tipi Makers, who have created tipis for 35 years using the authentic Sioux design. They bring a "living artifact" to the 21st century making it possible for children to experience what a nomadic culture experienced hundreds of years ago. The company is also known for making all of the leather tipis used in Kevin Costner's movie, Dances with Wolves and Tom Cruise's The Last Samurai.

A tribal member of the Cherokee Nation born in Oklahoma, Bailey Phelps now performs at festivals and schools, as well as weekly at the Omni Interlocken Resort, spreading the traditional tales of Native Americans. He has published four books, including They Loved the Land and With Our Own Eyes. Wearing a traditional ribbon shirt, he includes an Apache pin, Navajo belt, and Ute-made porcupine feather to honor the indigenous tribes who occupied the Colorado territory.

Up Close and Personal with Bugs and Creepy Crawlers

Not all of the insects from the nearby Butterfly Pavilion are indigenous to the open prairie, but kids nonetheless get to go eye-to-eye with them each Saturday morning during the summer at the Omni Interlocken. To the delight of the pint-sized guests, trained volunteers from the Butterfly Pavilion, a conservatory featuring butterflies and other invertebrates, bring the bugs and butterflies, including Rosie, the Tarantula.

Weekly Dive-In Movies Keep Families Cool in the Summer

With a setting as spectacular as the nearby Flatirons, visitors to the Omni Interlocken Resort located just outside Boulder can indulge all of their senses with the weekly Dive-In Movie shown at the Resort’s outdoor swimming pools. Families are encouraged to lounge poolside – or even inside the pool – and enjoy complimentary popcorn while they watch a family-friendly movie on the specially constructed big screen.

These Omni Interlocken Resort summer activities get into full swing beginning May 30, 2008 and run through August 30, 2008. Storytelling, Bug Presentation, and Dive In Movies are complimentary with an overnight stay at the Resort. There are additional charges for Spa services and golf privileges.

Named one of the top 10 best hotels for families by Child magazine, Omni Interlocken Resort offers special children’s menus, milk and cookies each night and a rolling backpack suitcase available for check-out at the front desk. The suitcase includes books and board games for added entertainment during the stay.
