Vacationers transform into food connoisseurs, sampling the tastes of Amelia Island’s rich history. Guests kick start their taste buds with an in-room flight of Mexican tequila, before visiting the on-property watering hole, Falcon’s Nest. The aviation-themed restaurant serves up an English flight of beer and a basket of traditional fish and chips. A French wine and chocolate turndown is best enjoyed on the oceanfront balcony, overlooking the dune-swept beaches of the Atlantic Ocean.
Early risers meander to the Sunrise Café where they are greeted with warm Southern hospitality and an American breakfast sure to satisfy appetites with cooked-to-order omelets, blueberry sausage and fresh seasonal fruits. A chauffeured ride to downtown Fernandina – the birthplace of the modern shrimping industry and once a haven for the Timucuan Indians, pirates and nobles – allow diners to discover an array of local fare and fresh-caught seafood, including Pirate’s Punch at Florida’s oldest continuously running bar, the Palace Saloon. Explorers browse antique stores, bookshops and clothing boutiques along historic Centre Street, drinking in the charming Victorian sea village.
