OMNI AMELIA ISLAND PLANTATION RECOGNIZED AS ONE OF THE WORLD'S BEST GOLF RESORTS BY CONDÉ NAST TRAVELER
Northeast Florida Coastal Island Resort Ranked Among 121 Top Golf Resorts
AMELIA ISLAND, FL (March 21, 2012) - The Omni Amelia Island Plantation proudly announces its appointment as one of Condé Nast Traveler’s Top 121 Golf Resorts in the World, appearing in the April issue of the publication. The sixteenth annual reader poll ranked the resort in the Top 20 Florida Golf Resorts, based on eight criteria: course design and access; golf staff and services; accommodations quality; service; food and dining; location; overall resort design; and activities.
“The Condé Nast Traveler ranking illustrates our dedication to maintaining an exceptional experience at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation,” said Paul Eckert, general manager. “We are honored by this recognition, and we will continue to offer unparalleled service and luxury for our guests.”
Nestled between the dune-swept beaches of the Atlantic Ocean and natural salt marshlands, the Omni Amelia Island Plantation offers 249 oceanfront guest rooms, with multi-bedroom villas tucked among the 1,350-acres of Amelia Island Plantation. With 54 holes of championship golf, the resort’s three courses – Ocean Links, Oak Marsh and Long Point -- boast the most seaside holes in Florida, featuring seven. Designed by Pete Dye, Bobby Weed and Tom Fazio, the course greens and fairways are carefully placed along Spanish moss-covered oaks, lush marshes and the sparkling Atlantic Ocean.
Developed by Charles Fraser in 1971, the Omni Amelia Island Plantation is beginning a new chapter in its 40-year history, undergoing an extensive $85 million re-imagination project. The renovations include 20,000 additional square feet of conference center space; 155 new guest rooms and suites; an expanded beach club and new two-tiered poolscape; new lobby and arrival experience; more variety of food and beverage venues and improved resort connectivity and parking.
Since it was acquired by Omni in late 2010, the oceanfront resort has laid claim to several awards, including AAA Four Diamond status for a consecutive 32 years; ConventionSouth Reader’s Choice Award; Tennis Magazine’s No. 2 Tennis Resort on Florida’s East Coast; Parents magazine Best Hotel Chain for Families; Premier Recreation Operation Award by The Resort & Commercial Recreation Association; and the Regional Award for Excellence in Economic Development & Tourism by the Northeast Florida Regional Council.
