OMNI PARKER HOUSE HONORS “30 – PLUS CLUB”
Twenty-Seven Associates Celebrated 30 or More Years of Service
Boston, MA (Jan. 11, 2011) – The Omni Parker House recently hosted the 5th Annual “30-Plus Club” celebration in the historic Press Room of the hotel. The club honors associates who have worked at the hotel for thirty years or more. This year six new members were inducted, bringing total club membership to twenty-seven associates. While including banquet servers, bartenders, housekeepers, maintenance engineers and a few managers, Bellman Edward Cotto leads the way with 42 years of service.
“Our hotel is historic in its own right but the histories of these special individuals have, for decades, made the biggest difference for our guests,” said general manager John Murtha. “The Club is a great way for us to acknowledge the contributions of our most experienced and professional staff.”
Then, “war stories” were shared by many of the club members attending. Doorman Richard Aliferis recounted the time he picked up ink-stained money off School Street, the result of a foiled bank robbery not far away. Jose Jodar, banquet bartender, shared how in 1980 he was living in Miami and vacationing in Boston when he just “dropped in” to see if there were any jobs available.
Seamus Murphy, guest services manager, who has held employment with the Omni Parker House for 34 years, commented on the festivities, “As I looked around the room at the “30-Plus Club” dinner I felt honored to be included in the ranks of such service professionals. The party was even hosted in the Press Room where JFK announced he was going to run for Congress and also had his bachelor party, but that’s another story.”
