The omni royal orleans debuts new look with $15 million renovation

Classic French Quarter Hotel welcomes new views with the addition of 24 balcony rooms, updated accommodations, refreshed public spaces and special “Balconies, Boat Cruises & Beignets” Package

NEW ORLEANS, LA. (April 16, 2013) – The Omni Royal Orleans debuts a new look at its classic New Orleans address with a fresh renovation. The $15 million project, led by Tamara Sypult of Interior Design Workshop (IDW) in San Francisco, welcomed modernized guest rooms, 24 new iconic wrought iron balconies and reinvigorated public spaces – all with an eye on maintaining the historic nature of the property while embracing contemporary amenities.

“We’re excited to welcome new and returning guests to experience the transformed Omni Royal Orleans” said General Manager Jon Hunter. “Visitors will be pleased to see the hotel has stayed true to its classic history and style while introducing comforts and luxuries familiar to the modern traveler.”

Drawing inspiration from the authentic sites and scenes of New Orleans, the hotel’s new design incorporates the liveliness of the area’s culture through various color palettes and artwork. The hotel’s color scheme of ice blue, gold, chocolate brown and rust were influenced by the surrounding city’s celebrated sunsets and décor. The colors created interior spaces that are more vibrant, soothing and cheerful. To complement these colors, hotel walls feature artwork and photography from local artists, all highlighting Louisiana imagery. Commissioned furniture designs were based on pieces found throughout the New Orleans antique district.

Newly renovated guestrooms and suites are enhanced with custom-designed furniture and modern technologies including flat-screen TVs. More than ever before, guests can admire views of the bustling French Quarter with the addition of 24 balconies to guestrooms and suites, bringing the grand total number of balcony rooms throughout the hotel to 49. The balconies, a signature feature found on buildings throughout the French Quarter, pays homage to the area’s distinct Colonial Spanish and French architectural styles. Custom carpeting by Shaw Contract Group features intricate designs that mimic the ornamental lace ironwork of the balconies found throughout the city, while super-fine drapery fabric was fashioned after a reduced-scale pattern of the same ironwork design. Windows are adorned with “drapery pockets” that make the rooms feel more open and spacious. Meanwhile, new artwork in guestrooms as well as in the corridors was inspired by local imagery and includes a series images snapped by local photographer Louis Sahuc.

Renovated public spaces throughout the Omni Royal Orleans follow in the style of the guest accommodations, with vibrant colors, patterns and furnishings inspired by the hotel’s history and the surrounding city. The main entrance and staircase have maintained their regal grandeur, while inviting warm color tones and larger lighting fixtures have been added to round out the space. The lobby was further arrayed with custom furniture and fixtures, such as lighting scones based on antiques from French Quarter residences. Tai Ping of Axminister created carpeting in corridors and public spaces from historical fabrics. The meeting rooms were also refreshed with new furniture, carpeting and window treatments. The signature Rib Room restaurant was revitalized with new furnishings and resurfacing of the original slate floor.
