Omni parker house celebrates with freedom trail summer celebration

Includes New Boston Cream Pie Ice Cream and Package with Tour, Complimentary Guidebook and Hotel History Book

BOSTON (July 14, 2011) – In celebration of summer, the storied Omni Parker House , the only luxury hotel on the Freedom Trail in downtown Boston, is inviting travelers to experience some history and treat their taste buds to Boston Cream Pie ice cream, a delicious new twist on the traditional favorite. As part of the Freedom Trail Summer Celebration , available now through Labor Day, guests can purchase discounted tickets to Boston’s popular, costume guided tour of the Freedom Trail and will also receive a complimentary Freedom Trail Guidebook and Omni Parker House history book.

Boston Cream Pie ice cream, a new addition to Parker’s Restaurant, will be served “on the house” to guests in the lobby from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. daily. The ice cream uses ingredients from the famous pie that originated at the hotel in 1855 when the kitchen staff iced a sponge cake filled with vanilla custard with chocolate. The original Omni Parker House recipe for the pie was so popular, in 1958 it became a Betty Crocker mix. On December 12, 1996, Boston Cream Pie was proclaimed the official Massachusetts State Dessert. The innovative, new rendition includes vanilla ice cream with layers of cake, swirls of chocolate ganache and pastry cream custard, creating a sweet, authentic flavor.

“We are continuing to push the envelope on the culinary experience with our new Boston Cream Pie ice cream,” said Dave Ritchie, area director of sales and marketing for the Omni Parker House. ”This summer, we are thrilled to combine culinary innovation with the rich history of the Freedom Trail for a truly unique Boston experience.”

Freedom Trail tours are 90 minutes and run every hour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tours leave from the Visitor’s Information Center at Boston Common, only minutes from the Omni Parker House. The 2.5 mile red brick walking trail is distinctive to the city of Boston with sixteen historic landmarks including museums, churches and meeting houses, narrate the events of the America Revolution and beyond.
