Cleo Cordero

Cleto Cordero

Our Cowtown Unplugged headliner for the May 26th show is the brilliant Americana singer-songwriter Cleto Cordero, lead vocalist and guitarist for Flatland Calvary (recently nominated for ACM Awards Group of the Year!) Formed in 2014 while attending Texas Tech University, Cordero and company made their presence felt within the Hub City’s songwriting circles and dancehall circuits. Banking on Cordero’s earnest pen and the band’s blend of country instrumentation, toe-tapping grooves, and earworm choruses, Flatland Calvary quickly became a regional sensation. The band is now breaking into a gallop after years of hot trotting across Texas with the release of their third full-length album, Welcome to Countryland, in 2021 and their most recent album Wandering Star. Codero is married to Kaitlin Butts, an accomplished musician in her own right and a frequent collaborator with the band.

He also Americana Music Association Emerging Artist nomination and awards from ASCAP and the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. “If you can’t say it, you don’t have to,” sings John Fullbright on “Bearden 1645,” the opening track to his new record “The Liar.” The album utilizes emotional and instrumental dynamics in ways Fullbright hasn’t allowed himself to explore fully before.
