Casual cuisine and signature Texas drinks
El Colegio Bar is a commemoration to the St. Mary’s School of law that first occupied the space in 1934. While not a speakeasy per se, the bar pays tribute to cocktails prepared in the early 1930s showcasing upwards of 75 premium spirits, craft beers and wines produced in the great state of Texas and in many cases as close as a few miles from the bar. Located off the hotel lobby and adorned by prohibition-era décor, El Colegio Bar offers modern-day renditions of classic cocktails and snacks ranging from warm nuts to traditional shrimp tacos and old school cheeseburgers.
A focus on Texas spirits, both bottled and draft local San Antonio Craft beer and Texas produced wine, El Colegio bar also offers the traditional and most requested beverages. Honoring the customary preparation of the early 1900’s cocktails the bar prepares its drinks in elegant glassware using proper ice cubes and served in an approachable friendly manner. Mixologists specialize in creating renditions of classic cocktails that will satisfy the most sophisticated palette.
The food menu is designed to complement the cocktail and wine menu offering approachable food at a reasonable price. Small bites such as marinated spiced olives, rosemary & sea salt marcona almonds to more classic items like the old School cheeseburger, spicy chicken wings and chipotle lime rock shrimp tacos are also available. El Colegio Bar offers guests a well-balanced and focused menu that hits the spot every time.
Once the library of St. Mary’s University, El Colegio Bar has been reborn as San Antonio’s newest truly local bar. Guests will travel back in time and be immersed into a space representative of both pre- and post-prohibition eras with hand-crafted Texas-inspired cocktails, local craft beers and the best margaritas on the River Walk. The intimate feel of the bar is characterized by the hard wood floors, approachable bar, dark wood floors and classic jazz music in the background.
