Cobblestone Streets in the Historic City Center

Old Montreal

The Old Montréal is considered to be one of the oldest districts within the city. It features a high concentration of 17th century architecture and is unique for its authentic European feel, with cobblestone streets lined with bistros, terraces and art galleries.

  • Part of Old Montréal was founded by French settlers on a tip of land off of the St. Lawrence River banks.
  • The historic city center is full of beautiful buildings and facilities that are the hub of transportation.
  • Place Ville-Marie is a 42-story building known for underground shopping malls, also as the public square that looks out on Mount Royal and McGill University.
  • A famous site, located at the mouth of the Lachine Canal, are the large grain elevators. These machines are used for transporting and receiving grain from the West.

  • If traveling in the winter, visit Terrasse Bonsecours Ice Rink for outdoor skating.
  • In the summer, rent a "Bixi" bike at one of the many public locations and discover Old Montréal from a new vantage point.
  • The Old Montréal is about a 15 to 20 minute walk or a 5 minute taxi ride from the hotel.
