Individual and group instruction is available in spring and summer on the Old Course. The Cascades offers a driving range and short-game practice facilities. All resort courses have a clubhouse.
The Homestead Golf Advantage School Package is offered on select dates through October. The two-day clinics at the resort's Teaching Center feature focused instruction in pitching, bunkers, chipping and putting along with swing analysis.
The Golf Advantage School Package includes:
- Overnight accommodations for two nights at The Omni Homestead Resort
- Two days of golf instruction
- One round of golf on the Old Course per person, per night of stay

MEET THE PROS
Barry Ryder, The Homestead’s head golf professional for The Old Course, is an accomplished player and respected teacher. Barry has 32 years of golf experience at the resort and served as the head professional for all of the courses. A native of Bath County, Barry has numerous tournament victories including the Mid-Atlantic PGA Senior/Junior Championship and the Bobby Jones Pro Invitational.
In honor of his long career with the resort, Don Ryder was named golf professional emeritus in 2019. Don first came to the resort as a doorman in 1973 and six years later, he became the head PGA professional at the Old Course. He continued his career ascension, becoming the head PGA professional at The Cascades in 1999, before being named director of golf in 2000. In 2015, Don Ryder, longtime director of golf, retired after 42 years at the resort. He returned in 2017 as manager, club operations for The Cascades.
Mark Fry, head golf professional for The Cascades is a Bath County, Virginia native who learned the game in his Allegheny Mountains backyard. He was an outstanding junior golfer and all-conference collegiate player at East Tennessee State University. Mark has been with The Homestead since 1996 and has also served as director of instruction at the resort. Golf Digest has ranked Mark as one of the top 10 golf instructors in Virginia on numerous occasions and was most recently rated as the #6 best instructor in the biennial awards.
